Backend incident triage
A proposed evidence-first sequence for choosing a reversible next step during an ambiguous backend incident.
Origin: Personal architecture exploration derived from public engineering practices; no client system, incident, or delivery is represented.
Problem / Context
An intermittent checkout failure has no agreed timeline or clear owner.
Constraints
- No client data
- Reversible changes preferred
- Evidence must precede a diagnosis
Options considered
- Restart services immediately
- Change code based on symptoms
- Establish an event timeline and trace the request path
Recommendation
Establish a shared evidence map and bounded validation plan before proposing a change.
Proposed implementation
Model request identifiers, timestamps, dependencies, and ownership in a single incident record; then test the smallest safe hypothesis.
Validation / Evidence
This is a conceptual workflow, not a record of a completed incident or production validation.
Production considerations
- Protect logs and customer data
- Define rollback before change
- Assign incident ownership
This Architecture Exploration documents a decision-making pattern only. It makes no claim of client delivery, measured outcome, or production implementation.
